GASKETED DOOR OPTIONS

***As of 2009, states that have adopted IECC 2009 require that NEWLY constructed MASONRY fireplaces be equipped with GASKETED DOORS (additional information on which states have adopted IECC 2009 can be found HERE).  These doors are designed to reduce airloss through the fireplace when the fire is dying or extinguished, and to minimize cold air infiltration from a down drafting chimney.  They are NOT “air tight” options such as a wood stove or fireplace insert.  Like any fireplace door, it is important that gasketed doors be left OPEN while burning fires in order to avoid damage to door, frame and tempered glass.
